Rises in public transport prices for gocards and paper tickets have started to create public furor once more. According to the translink website, there will be a 15% rise in fares to ‘support the funding for multiple improvements‘. That is 15% on top of the already exorbitant prices we have seen.
They snidely add that the ‘gocard still continues to be at least 30% cheaper than paper tickets’, in a crude attempt to encourage people across to the system (a system that takes the human element out of the trip, making the cost less noticeable, less obvious).
They also advertise that if you ‘take 10 gocard journeys in a week‘ you then travel free. So for those of us who may consider traveling on public transport for our 5 days of work each week, there is still no incentive or any discount. This could be fairly perceived as insulting.
